What do you do when you’re supposed to be working?

December 30, 2008

It’s 5:56 AM.  I have about 30 minutes left of quiet, do not disturb work time - which is a huge luxury for me, and one worth getting up at unGodly hours for.  I just realized, I’ve spent the past 10 minutes looking at a couple of blogs on simplifying home management.  What does that say about me?  That my heart is drawn to that topic so strongly that it easily overrides the fact that I have a deadline in 48 hours.

So I’m throwing the question out there:  What do you read online when you’re supposed to be working, and why?

Job boards - mostly journalistic ones, then the chat rooms that go along with some of them. Then some of the sites that I write for - the garden ones have lots of different time wasting places.

Facebook for me too - and research. Research is a huge time sink for me. I find one interesting thing about my current project, which leads to something else more or less related, which leads off to something completely out in left field….and the next thing I know I’m knee-deep in home management techniques when I should be writing about PHP Security!

Hmm…Twitter, genealogy, whatever topic catches my interest, homeschool questions…everything but what I should be doing!

Facebook, Writing.com, other blogs, things about decluttering and catching up on the many lists I’m on. Hmm…writing comments on blogs when I’m supposed to be editing, like now, for instance? LOL

I posted yesterday too, first time in a month. Go check it out! http://www.SusanSmithThompson.com

My number one procrastinator would have to be the blogs the subscribe to in Bloglines. I think I have about 110 feeds I receive. I’ll find myself saying I’ll just check one and then one more and so on and so on. The other guilty site would be Facebook.
